Sailing at SMES
Ahoy, mates!
Fair winds and calm seas greeted our novice sailors this past week during the first week of sailing at SMES! Our journey started on land with plenty of instruction on nautical terminology and boat handling in preparation for heading out in the sailboats, or “qubes”, to the various local canals. After dodging a few summer storms, our skippers spent plenty of time on the water learning the fundamentals of tacking while gaining a new confidence for sailing. From learning how to navigate around other boats and obstacles to safely righting capsized boats, plenty of knowledge was gained but there is only more to come. Looking forward to future adventures - don’t be left on land!
