Where Nurturing and Growth Go Hand in Hand

A 2016 study published in the American Education Research Journal found that students in grades 6-8 were better off academically, socially, and emotionally in K-8 schools compared 6-8 or 6-12 schools. With strong leadership skills developed at a relatively young age, our eighth graders appeal to a wide variety of high schools. Put simply, our 8th graders are accepted wherever they dream to go!

Through our High School Selection Program, we partner with each student to find their ideal fit for the next level. Saint Marks students matriculate into the best institutions in Broward County, as well as day and boarding schools around the country.

K-8 Buddy Program

One of our favorite traditions is the K8 Buddy program, because it exemplifies the K-8 experience. Each kindergartner is matched with an eighth grader and the pair enjoy learning activities throughout the year. Friends are made for life!

Why K-8 Works:

Check out these five reasons why we believe in the K-8 model.

Leadership

The oldest students on campus assume the mantle of leadership and act as role models for the entire student body. Leadership opportunities include Student Council, Student Ambassadors, athletic team captains, leads in school musicals, National Junior Honor Society, K8 Buddy Program and more. Enjoying the privileges of being the leaders of the student body prepares students for those same opportunities in high school and beyond.

Age appropriate

Saint Mark's elementary and middle school environment allows students to experience age appropriate activities and events, without the influence and pressure of older students. Seventh and eighth graders are not “caught in the middle,” but take on the role of “seniors.” At the same time, they can be themselves, often remaining “younger” a bit longer.

Natural transition point

Transition to a larger setting with older students in 9th grade is found to be the developmentally correct time. Ninth grade is a natural transition point where students are eager and ready to experience new friendships and the challenges ahead. A foundation of confidence through leadership is built in the K-8 model and students are prepped and ready to tackle the four short years of high school.

Our graduates go where they want

Being a graduate of Saint Mark’s opens up a world of possibility. Our High School Selection Program works in partnership with you and your student to find a high school “match” that honors your child’s unique gifts and achievements. Saint Mark’s placement team knows the schools and knows your student. Saint Mark’s students are sought after as high school freshmen because they are well prepared, self-assured, academically accelerated and well rounded.

Shared values for a lifetime

Students experiencing Saint Mark’s during their elementary and middle school years develop values and build friendships that will define them throughout their lives. Your choice of Saint Mark’s ensures that your child is surrounded by students and families who hold values of character, integrity, respect for self and others, spirituality, excellence in education and lifelong relationships high.
