St. Mark’s Class of 2015 Valedictorian, Ashling O’Neill, continues to succeed in her high school endeavors. Out of the 526 seniors at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, Ashling was chosen to be one of 15 Silver Knight nominees for the high school. The Miami Herald Silver Knight Award is a prestigious award that honors outstanding high school students in Miami-Dade and Broward for their academic excellence and passion for community service. Ashling received this nomination for her volunteer work with the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Ballet Theater, contributing over 300 hours! Even more over her four years in high school, Ashling has given 500 hours+ to serving many organizations, including Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church’s Religious Education Program and Holy Cross Hospital.
Chosen by faculty and administrators at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, Ashling is the Historian of the National Honor Society. Ashling is in 5 additional honor societies and 4 clubs at STA : Co-President of the National Art Honor Society, and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society, the Social Studies National Honor Society, the Technical National Honor Society, and the Science National Honor Society. Ashling is also secretary of the Marine Biology Club – the most populated club at STA! She is also a member of the leadership council of the Cancer Awareness Raider Edition Club (C.A.R.E) and treasurer of the Friends of Saint Francis Club.
Ashling has been a Veritas Scholar at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School all 4 years, receiving the honor when she scored in the top percent of students on her High School Placement Test and from there on keeping a GPA of 4.5 or higher.
Ashling’s early work in community service, advanced class offering plus the love and support of the St. Mark’s teachers and faculty provided a strong foundation for her future success in high school. Congrats Ashling! We are so proud of you and know that you will do amazing things in the future.
